Fortuna Academy - Chapter 01 – Departure

Kenpachi Yoshida, a tall, muscular, dark-skinned draconian with long, black hair , intimidating red eyes, a pair of black horns sprouting from his head and black wings coming out of his back, and Rose Lualdi, a thin, white-haired woman with green eyes were proud to say that they had a great life, and always believed that they could face any hardships as long as they had each other.

That is, until this very day.

Their older son, Ryuuga, was departing today to the Fortuna Academy of Magic. He'd be all by himself there and they couldn't help but be both sad and worried. Kenpachi and Rose watched their two younger children giving their older brother goodbye. "We'll miss you, big bro." Said the small, white haired girl hugging her older brother. The silver-haired teen turned his head to his black-haired younger brother. "Yusei, you take care of you sister, you hear me?"

The little boy nodded. "Leave it to me!" The boy answered. "And Lyuri," He said, turning his head to his white-haired sister."You make sure he doesn't get in much trouble." He finished, petting his little sister's head. She nodded and smiled."Ok!" Ryuuga then walked towards his parents. Rose hugged her son. "Take care...Ryuuga." Rose said. "Thanks, mom." Ryuuga said hugging her back. He they looked at his father in the eye. Kenpachi gripped his son's shoulder. "Good luck, kid."

"Thanks."

"I know it's hard to change like this, but I'm sure you'll enjoy Fortuna Academy. I did." Ryuuga nodded. "Now hop to it!" Kenpachi said, giving his son a push. "Goodbye!" He shouted as he departed towards the aerodrome.

The silver-haired boy walked through the streets of Kyoko town. He headed towards the Kyoko aerodrome, where he'd take an airship to Fortuna Academy. He was dressed in white button-up shirt, black pants, black shoes and a black jacked hung around his shoulder, covering his black wings, a trait common to his father's race. His spiky hair was tied in a long ponytail. His blue eyes had a cold gaze that made people shiver as they looked at them. As he walked by the streets, He noticed a few people looking at him with disdain or fear. He wasn't exactly a liked person by some of the townsfolk after a certain incident two years ago.

"Good riddance to them" He thought.

Upon arriving on the station, he saw two familiar faces. A girl with black-hair tied into a spiky ponytail, brown eyes and dressed in a red kimono, black pants and wooden sandals, and a blonde boy with green eyes, wearing a white jacket, blue shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. They were his friends Yumi and Jin.

"Sorry I'm late." Ryuuga told them.

"What took you so long?" Jin asked.

"I had a hard time saying goodbye to my brothers." The silver-haired boy replied. "Did you wait too long?"

"Eh, not much, we got here 10 minutes ago." Yumi answered. "We got a cart for your bag." She said, pointing to the empty cart near hers and her boyfriend's.

"Thanks." Ryuuga said as he placed his bag on the cart.

"You got your tickets?" They both showed him their airship tickets. "You got everything you'll need there?"

"We're all set." Yumi replied.

"Good. Now, let's go." Ryuuga told the duo. Soon afterwards, they entered the aerodrome. Once inside, they began to look for their platform. "We're supposed to be at platform 6, right?" Jin asked. "Yeah." Yumi replied.

"Did you guys have a hard time saying goodbye to your family as well?" Ryuuga asked his friends.

"Eh, not really." Yumi replied with a shrug. "We can always exchange letters. And I know Suzu can survive without her big sis."

"Same here." Jin added.

"Heh....I wish I could feel that way with my brothers. They have Mom and Dad around but they won't always have them around. I hope they can handle it." Ryuuga remarked, with prompted Yumi to let out a small chuckle.

"What?" Ryuuga asked, curious at the girl's reaction.

"That's just like you. You're always a softie when it comes to your brothers. I think you're worrying too much. Let's just enjoy our time at the academy, ok?" Yumi replied. Ryuuga just sighed.

"I hope you're right , Yumi."

"And beside, I don't think "She"'d like to know you're getting mopey while you're not around."

"This is it." Jin said. "Platform 6."

"Your tickets, please." A man standing by the embarking gate requested. The three teens handed their tickets. "You're at cabin 302. Here are the card keys for the cabin." The man said, handing a blue card to each one of them. "Enjoy your trip." They muttered a "thank you" and made their way towards the airship. Once inside, they began to look around. On the higher floors were the private passenger cabins. On the floor they were currently in were a bar, and a corner with some seats and couches with a large TV in front of them. The first floor had a staircase that seemed to lead to the  observation deck, "Our room's at the third floor." Yumi spoke.

Meanwhile...

In an academy situated in the middle of Fortuna Island, things were quite busy. The school year would start again and the preparations to welcome all the returning students were underway. At the principal's lounge, a white-haired, bearded aged man was looking at some files lying on the table. Those particular files where files on the new students that would be joining the academy this year. One name in particular drew his attention. "Yoshida? So...that troublemaker finally started a family." He thought as he laughed. "Mr.Kyoraku, is something wrong?" Asked a tall, blonde woman entering the room.

"Ah, Chizuru. Yes everything is fine. I was just reminding the old days." He replied.

"We have a lot of students joining us this year, don't we?" The woman asked looking over the files on the desk. Kyoraku nodded.

"Yes. You know, I feel that this..."

"...will be a very interesting year!"


The sky ferry flew through the skies, with destination to Fortuna Academy. Inside one of the private cabins, Ryuuga watched the clouds through the window while Yumi and Jin slept on their bed. A voice rang through the ship intercom.

"Attention all passengers. We will be arriving at our destination in 30 minutes. Please enjoy your stay here for the time being and feel free to use any of our installations."

Ryuuga went back to watching the clouds. "30 minutes...might as well check around the ship." he thought as he got up and walked towards the door. He swiped his card key on a nearby machine and the door slid open. "Now what do we have to do around here?" He thought. The door slid closed as he left the cabin. The sliding sound of the door woke Yumi up. She looked around to see no one in the cabin. She then had an idea.

"Hey..." She called, poking at Jin's chest. Jin opened his left eye.

"What..."He replied, his voice a bit groggy.

"Ryuuga left." She said. Jin arched an eyebrow

"I see...and?"

"You know what I'm getting to..." She whispered seductively in his ear before nibbling it and gripping the collar of his jacket. Jin smirked at what she was suggesting.

"Let's just keep it down." He said before crashing his lips against hers.

Later

Ryuuga was sitting at the bar, watching the other people who were around the lobby. They were all Fortuna Academy students who spent their vacation home instead of stay at the academy dorms. "What will it be?" Asked a male voice. Ryuuga turned around to see a man with brown hair and eyes and a thin mustache, dressed in a waiter outfit. "Got lemon soda?" The man quickly got a glass of the requested drink. "Here ya go." The man said as he passed the glass to the silver-haired teen. "Thanks." He said before taking a sip of his soda.

"You're a new student, correct?" The barman asked. Ryuuga seemed a bit surprised.

"Uh, yes. How do you know?" He asked curiously.

"I work at the Academy's cafeteria. I know the face of every customer I had and yours is definitely a new one." Ryuuga frowned slightly.

"How so?" He asked again as he adjusted his loose glasses. "I never had a silver-haired student before." They both shared a laugh. The man then extended his hand to Ryuuga.

"I'm Timoteo. Nice to meet you kid." Ryuuga gripped the man's hand and shook it. "My pleasure. Ryuuga Yoshida." He replied politely. It was Timoteo's turn to be surprised. "Yoshida? As in, Kenpachi Yoshida?" Timoteo asked.

"You know my father?" Timoteo's eyes widened at the question. "You're his son? So that kid finally settled down! That's great news! Yup, I sure knew him, kid. One of the top students of Fortuna back in the day. Also one of my best customers." Ryuuga seemed interested in Timoteo's story." Your mother wouldn't happen to be Rose Lualdi, would she?" The barman asked again.

"Yes."

Timoteo's reaction to that was a smile filled with joy. "So they finally got together! Wonderful! I was cheering for them since they were students on Fortuna."

"Go on..."

"Well-" Timoteo was about to say something but was cut short by a alarm sound ringing through the intercom."ATTENTION ALL PASSENGERS! AIR IMPS HAVE INVADED THE SHIP AND ARE TAKING OVER THE OBSERVATION DECK! PLEASE REMAIN IN THE LOBBY UNTIL THEY ARE DEALT WITH!PLEASE DO NOT PANIC!" After the voice went off, all the passengers started to panic.

"Oh, no. Why now of all times!?"

"Air Imps?" Ryuuga asked with a sharp gaze.

"They are vicious, flying creatures that live in the mountains. If they cause too much damage up there, the ship might lose balance and then it will crash!" Ryuuga's eyes widened.

"I'll be right back!" Ryuuga said as he ran towards the observation deck

"No, wait!" Timoteo shouted but to no avail. Ryuuga was already gone.

Timoteo sighed and then smirked, regaining his composure.

"Heh, that boy is definitely Kenpachi's son. Good Luck, kid." Timoteo said to himself.

"DAMNIT! OF ALL THE TIMES FOR THAT TO HAPPEN-" Yumi yelled angrily as she was hastily putting her kimono back. Jin, who was also getting redressed, was trying to calm his girlfriend down."Calm down, Yu. Let's just take care of this so we can resume it from where we stopped."

Ryuuga entered the observation deck and saw a group of green,winged imps attacking a few students, who were putting up a fight, but the imps seemed to have the upper hand. They seemed to be a dozen, minimum. "Hey!" The silver-haired boy shouted. The pack of imps turned towards the ource of the voice to see Ryuuga glaring at them "If you want a challenge, then come at me!" He taunted, getting into battle position.

One of them snarled at the boy viciously before rushing aggressively towards him. The imp attempted to slash Ryuuga with it's claws, but he disappeared a second before the imp could make contact. It looked around frantically, only to feel an excruciating pain as a sword pierced it's chest.

"Too slow." Ryuuga said from behind the imp before yanking the sword out of it's chest and kicking it away. "Anyone else?" He asked the Imps tauntingly. They enraged imps charged at the boy with killing intent. Ryuuga stabbed his sword on the floor and dodged past them. Ryuuga snapped his left hand's fingers and a magic seal was formed around the sword, trapping the imps inside a barrier. He smirked as he watched the imps struggle inside the barrier. He turned his head to the students that were being attacked by the imps.

"What the hell are you doing!? Get to the main hall already!" He shouted. The students quickly made their way downstairs. One of them muttered a "thank you" as they ran past him. He waited until they left the deck.

"Now to finish them off." He thought as he raised his left hand again. "Draco Ars Magi." As he chanted those words, mana started to flow out from his sword. "Erumpens Ignis!" With another snap of his fingers, the mana exploded into flames, burning everything inside the barrier. The charred Imps fell on the floor, defeated.

"Well,that was easy. I guess that's all of them"

Suddenly, a loud screech pierced the air and more imps bursted from the clouds and charged at Ryuuga.

"I just had to think it, didn't I?"

He ran towards his sword and pulled it from the floor, but the handle was burning hot from being surrounded by the intense flames. "OW!HOTHOTHOTHOTHOT!" He shouted as he struggled to hold his sword. "DAMNIT! I CAN'T HOLD IT LIKE THIS!" He shouted as he dodged the imps' vicious strikes. One of them managed to land a hit on the silver-haired boy, and the other were about to move in for the kill when a burst of electricity knocked them away. Ryuuga looked at the direction the lightning came from to see Jin.

"Did someone call for backup!?" Jin said humorously. Ryuuga chuckled.

"Whatever you say, dude." Ryuuga said back as he got up. He carefully grabbed his sword and got into battle stance. Yumi quickly joined them.

"Sorry I'm late, I was sealing the door to make sure no one gets here." Yumi said. "No worries." Ryuuga replied.

"Now...Let's get this show on the road!" Jin shouted as he got into battle stance.

"Everyone seems to be here." Said one of the ship attendants. "No...we're three students short." Said another attendant. "Yoshida, Suzuki and Takamura aren't here." she concluded.

"Oh no..."

The battle against the imps raged on. These seemed thougher than the previous ones. Even so, Ryuuga, Yumi and Jin were putting up a decent fight. Yumi dodged the imps' attacks while pulling a spell card from her pocket. Yumi held both hands in front of her, forming a triangle with them, before forming a handseal with both hands clenched, her index fingers pointing up.

"Suimahou! - Suiryuushoukan!"

As she chanted those words, a water dragon came out of the spell card and swallowed the imps before exploding in the air, sending the imps falling to the cold floor. After dismissing the dragon, more imps charged at Yumi. She smirked. "Persistent, are we?" She said summoning a shortsword and a katana. "I'll make sure you don't get up after THIS!" She roared as she attacked the imps fiercely. Ryuuga and Jin were battling the imps back-to-back. "What's with her?-Watch it!" Ryuuga asked as he slashed a imp behind Jin. " Well- Whoa! –" Jin attacked another one. "When that alarm rang, we were kinda-"

"Got it." Ryuuga cut Jin mid sentence as he stabbed another imp.

"Duck!" Jin said firing a blast of mana from his spear at another imp as Ryuuga ducked.

"You idiot! On your right!"Ryuuga warned blasting another imp with a fireball.

"Whoa! ...Phew. That was close! Thanks." Jin said.

There was only one imp remaining, which was quickly beaten by Yumi's fierce attacks. The last Imp fell to the ground covered in wounds.

"That seems to be all of-."  

An even louder screech than before interrupted Yumi mid-sentence. The ship was shaken upon the landing of something heavy on the deck. Looking behind them, Yumi, Ryuuga and Jin saw a giant air imp snarling at them. He was presumably the alpha male.

"Ok, let's make an agreement to not say that line again,ever." Ryuuga said flatly, emphasizing the last word. "Deal." Yumi and Jin nodded in agreement.

The larger imp, seeing his wounded brethren, let out a deafening roar, which prompted the trio to get into battle stance.

"Now we're talking!" Jin shouted with a fierce gaze. "I hope this big body isn´t just for show!"

"Try not to fall behind." Yumi added resting her katana on her shoulder while tightly gripping her shortsword with a smirk in her face."What's the plan, Ryuuga?" Yumi asked the silver-haired teen.

"We have to keep him in the air." Ryuuga said adjusting his glasses. "It won't harm the ship that way." He finished.

"Well, how should we do it?" Jin asked.

"The usual." Ryuuga said calmly, stepping forward. "Let's go!"

As soon as Ryuuga said those words, Ryuuga and Jin charged at the imp, attacking it while Yumi pulled another card , performing a hand seal and swiftly setting it on the floor with both hands. Yumi summoned a water stream that slid rapidly towards the large imp as Ryuuga and Jin stepped back, turning itself into a large pool that shot numerous cannonball-sized water projectiles at the imp, blasting it in the air. Yumi jumped after it, clapping her hands together, the pool forming itself into a large water column behind Yumi as she jumped.

"Suimahou! Amesuiryuuha!" Yumi shouted thrusting her hands forward, making the column burst into countless, droplet-sized water dragons that rushed towards the imp, striking it mercilessly. The imp blew them away with a mighty swing of  it's wings. Yumi was blown away by the powerful gust caused. Ryuuga caught her while Jin dashed at the imp, lightning running through his spear.

"Byakuraiyari!" Jin shouted striking the beast's chest, releasing a burst of white lightning from it's tip that pierced the imp's chest. The imp roared in pain, swinging it's claw at Jin, but a wall of water blocked it and Ryuuga struck the imp with a spinning kick, followed by a straight one on the imp's wound. The imp, becoming increasingly enraged, soared high and let out a deafening roar before starting to form a sphere of dark energy in front of it's mouth.

The beast swallowed it before firing a massive beam of dark energy at the trio. Then dodged it by few inches, and the imp was already preparing another blast, aiming it directly at the ship. As the imp was about to fire his blast, sooner than it could fire it after opening it's mouth, Jin struck it's mouth from below while Yumi and Ryuuga kicked it from above, closing the imp's mouth as soon as he fired the beam, causing it to explode inside it. The imp, severely damaged, began to fall towards the ship.

"Oh no you don't!" Ryuuga said grabbing the imp by it's tail, throwing it off the ship. Ryuuga's blade covered itself in flames before he flew after the nearly dead beast. As a last stand, the imp tried to gather energy for a blast meant to take out all of them with the ship. Ryuuga, however, was already behind it, muttering "Sentouryuuken-".A large cut was opened in the beast's abdomen. The wound then was set aflame.

"Tenryuuga." Ryuuga finished swinging the flames off his sword with one swift motion, as the imp let out a blood-curling scream of pain when it's whole body burst out in flames, as it plummeted to his death.

"It's not opening!" Said one of the ship workers trying to open the door that led to the deck. "It must have gotten sealed from the other side somehow!" She tried to use sensory spells to scan the door, discovering the seal Yumi placed on the other side. "It's a sealing tag! Those three must have sealed themselves on the other side!"

"Damn! What are we supposed to do now!?" Another employee asked.

"First and foremost, I'd suggest you all to calm down." Timoteo said calmly walking towards them. "Mr.Grimaldi! How can you be so calm at a time like this?" The brown-haired female ship employee asked the barman, outraged.

"I doubt they'd pull a stunt like that if they weren't sure they could deal with this situation." Timoteo answered calmly. "And besides, I know where one of them comes from. Trust me when I say that he's no pushover."

Yumi exhaled."That felt good." She said stretching. "I really needed that~"

"Talk about hardcore..." Jin said rubbing his shoulders. "And we didn't even made it to Fortuna Academy yet!"

Well..." Yumi said as she looked around the observation deck's floor filled with the defeated air imps and covered in their blood.

"How are we gonna deal with this?" Yumi asked.

"Let the airship staff handle it." Ryuuga with a shrug. "Besides, shouldn't we unseal that door?"

"Oh,yeah..." Yumi said removing the paper seal from the door. It instantly slid open. Two airship employers were standing on the other side of the door.

"Ah, good timing." Ryuuga told them. "Would one of you let the ship announcer know that the imps are gone? Also, the observation deck might need some cleanup." He said as he walked past them and made his way to the bar. The woman looked at the boy with disbelief.

"Uh...but...eh...wh-what?" The attendant babbled.

"Excuse us." Said Yumi as she went past them dragging Jin behind her. "Hey, easy." He complained.

The attendants made their way towards the observation deck and their eyes widened at what they saw. Surprised, high-pitched whimpering noises came out of the attendants' mouth as they saw the large number of Air imps and the amount of blood spread around the deck.

"Get the relocation spell ready..." One of them said with a sigh. "I'll get the cleaning stuff..."

Later...

Ryuuga was at the bar resuming his talk with Timoteo."So...you managed to get rid of the imps. That's really impressive, kid." Said the barman. "They meant a considerable danger to both the passengers and the ship. You have my thanks." He finished. "Nah, We had to deal with worse than that at Kyoko town." He said calmly. "No big deal.".

"Where are your friends?" Timoteo asked. "Well...they're a couple in love and they were in the middle of a romantic moment that was interrupted by a unexpected turn of events. You have three guesses."

"I see..." Timoteo replied, understanding what he meant.

"You have nice friends, don't you?" Ryuuga smiled at the question. "Well, they're my greatest friends. And I wouldn't give them up for anything." After he said that, Timoteo laughed.

"You're Kenpachi's son, all right! Don't you ever lose that spirit, kid." Ryuuga laughed as well." I don't think you'll have to worry about that."

The intercom rang again. "Attention all passengers. We've arrived at Fortuna Academy. Please proceed towards the disembarking gate. We apologize for the earlier inconvenience and we hope you enjoyed your stay on the ship." Said the female voice again. "Well, looks like this is it." Ryuuga extended his hand to Timoteo. "I enjoyed our talk. I suppose you could tell me more about Mom and Dad some other time?" He asked.

"Sure,kid. I'm looking forward to see you at my bar, you hear me?" Timoteo said as he gripped the boy's hand.

"Deal." They shook hands. Ryuuga said his goodbyes and left to meet up with his friends.

"Good Luck!" Timoteo yelled. Ryuuga raised his right arm with his fist clenched and his thumb extended. When he arrived at the gate, he saw Yumi and Jin waiting for him. "Did you manage to make up for the lost time?" Ryuuga asked teasingly. Both teens blushed. "Thought so. Well then, You guys ready?"

"Yes." Both teens said in unison.

"Let's go, you two. Our new step...starts here!" Ryuuga told Yumi and Jin inspiringly.

The trio went through the disembarking gate with a hopeful, yet filled with uncertainty look on their faces.

This was just the beginning of their adventures...
